A fan recalls they opened with Check and how the Rush fans welcomed the band warmly, as Detroit is a border town, after all.

First time I saw Max was they opened for Rush in Detroit around 80/81. I heard X + Y and was sold on them. Bought every album and what I couldn't buy in the states I ran over the bridge to Windsor and scoured for them. Such an underrated band.
