In an interview before the gig, Pye Dubois stated how the band will be endorsing the local rock station CFOX’s “Disco Demolition Derby” at tonight’s gig, and the Vancouver Sun even went so far as to brand Mitchell as “anti-disco,” insisting two contest winners would be participating in a record-smashing session with him during the show, sledgehammers and all. No such thing happened, and Mitchell quashed all of this in an interview later in the month, saying he’s certain the “disco sucks” slogan prevalent at the time was something manufactured by the record companies. This may perhaps explain the lukewarm review the band received from that particular journalist, compared to the glowing one a year earlier.

Fan Stories

Colin MacLean

Saw Max Webster, backed up by FM, back in 79 at the Pacific Coliseum in Vancouver. It was disco destruction night and a lucky fan got to smash a wheelbarrow full of disco albums with a sledge hammer. Great show by both bands. Good memories!
