I first saw them in Regina at the Center of the Arts (now the Conexus Arts Centre) when Paul Kersey was drummer, and Terry and Mike were on keys and bass. They were touring their first album. During Toronto Tontos Kim wore this hat with a floppy brim that would change shape as he turned it on his head – really cool effect. At one point in the song he grabbed a cigarette and sent it swirling a good 6 feet in the air above him catching it in his mouth and lighting it without losing a beat! For a young kid this was amazing to see: not only was I completely blown away by the quality of musicianship of each player, I was really entertained by so many other aspects of the show. Max Webster taught me early on that a rock concert is a performance where FUN is a main ingredient. I don’t recall attending a Max Webster concert and not laughing... and I saw them (thankfully) a lot. I feel richer for those experiences in my life. Then came Gary McCracken on drums... and then Dave Myles on bass... wow! In my opinion, Max Webster is on TOP of the list of most excellent and entertaining Canadian rock acts ever, period. They are unique in their field of expertise.
